A Federal building installed GE Biax T/E florescent lights in a high ceiling over a staircase. A contractor offered to build a custom scaffold for $6,000.00 so they could change the lamps. Instead B. Dash was commissioned to solve the problem. Since an important meeting was scheduled soon, we designed and made this tool in three days.
The tool installs on a standard painter’s pole. The hexagonal cutout slips up over the base of the lamp. Then the tool is rotated so that the corners of base are caught and the lamp can be pulled out, dropping onto a foam cushion in the tool. The push pin allows the cushion to be raised, holding a new lamp higher in the tool so that it can be installed.
The maintenance worker said that it worked perfectly; it took him less than five minutes to change the first lamp.
